Yoshino Cherry (Prunus × yedoensis)
The quintessential flowering cherry, depicted widely in Japanese fine art and planted throughout that country. Famous in Washington DC as the first gift from Japan in 1902. Blooms in early spring.

Family: Rose (Rosaceae)
Native Range: Japan
Zone: 5-8
Height: 30-50 feet
Spread: 30-40 feet
Maturation Period: 5-10 yrs
Bloom Time: March to April
Bloom Description: White, sometimes tinged pink
Sun: Full sun to part shade
Water: Medium, drought tolerant.
Maintenance: High (for diseases and disorders)
Suggested Use: Shade Tree, Street Tree, Flowering Tree
Flower: Showy, Fragrant
Leaf: Good Fall
Attracts: Birds, Bees, Butterflies. An important source of food for many small birds and mammals including robins, cardinals and waxwings.
Fruit: Showy
Watering: Rarely needed. But water in the morning if the top 2 inches of soil is dry.
Fertilizing: Apply a slow-release fertilizer at least once a year in winter, or another time in late spring after flowering. Follow up by watering the surrounding soil to allow the fertilizer to penetrate into the roots. Recommended fertilizer (for all stone fruit trees): Espoma Organic 18 Lb. 6-3-2 Tree-tone Granular Plant Food
Pruning: Minimal pruning is needed for these trees because cherries are susceptible to diseases from the pruned wounds. If you don’t know how, don’t cut. Forestry has been pruning it. Apply sealer when you cut branches above 1 inch in diameter. Do not cut thick branches in the middle. Best to prune between November and early March, after the leaves have fallen, and before the new growth begins. You can do small pruning in the growing season to keep the tree in shape. But do not do big pruning in summer. Prune dead branches, broken branches, crossing branches, upward strong branches, and downward or inward-growing branches. Create a round shape tree, extending to the side to create a nice shade.

Cerezo Yoshino (Prunus × yedoensis)

Flores: Llamativas y fragantes
Hojas: Buen color otoñal
Atrae: Aves, abejas y mariposas.
Fruto: Ornamental
Riego
Rara vez necesita riego.

(Prunus × yedoensis)

(Rosaceae)
